Week 25: We're locked inside
1/26/2026Yello,
Our district just played some soccer at the church, and while my comp and were changing, they locked the gate to leave the church lot.
So while I'm here, I'll tell you a joke from our mission president last night:
One day, an elementary school teacher tells her students to ask their parents where their names come from and share them the next day.
So, a girl named Butterfly asks her mom, "why was I named Butterfly?"
And she responds, "because when you were a little baby, a butterfly landed on your head."
Then, a boy named Raindrop asks his mom, "why was I named Raindrop?"
And she responds, "because when you were a little baby, a raindrop fell on your head."
Then, a boy named Brick asks his mom, "blUh Bluh bluH bLuh"
**more blubbering sounds**
I didn't say Brazilians were very politically correct.
And, another joke!
What do atheists and jehovah witnesses have in common?
They don't really care for the missionaries.
When we contact someone on the street and ask if they wanna hear a message about Christ another day, while most people either agree to hand over their number or just keep walking saying they're super-duper busy, there are some that actually stop and say no and say why.
One was a Jehovah's Witness.
He told us right off the bat, "just so you know. I'm Jehovah's Witness."
My comp asked anyway, "do you wanna hear a message about Christ another day?"
"Did you not understand? I'm Jehovah's Witness. I do the same thing as you, talking to people in their houses about... (describes some prophecy for the future I didn't understand)"
"... Okay, but would you have interest in a message about Christ?"
"Yeah, sure." (Conveniently forgets his number halfway through)
The other, 5 min later, was an atheist woman.
"No, thanks, I'm atheist." She replies.
"But would you have interest in a message about Christ?" My comp asks her for the second time.
"No, I don't do religion, but I appreciate what y'all do, you know, making people happy and stuff" She kindly replies, despite my comp not blinking an eye at her out-of-the-ordinary response and stance.
My comp's great, in case you're worried.
Enough with the jokes. Let's get serious.
Favorite hymn -- Sweet is the Peace the Gospel Brings
Listening to recording of BYU choirs singing this hymn and conference and looking at the words, I realized they sang mostly nin-standard verses. Also, because of our delay, I'm almost outta time today. Here are the usual verses they sang:
4. May we who know the sacred Name
From every sin depart.
Then will the Spirit’s constant flame
Preserve us pure in heart.
6. That which we have in part received
Will be in part no more,
For he in whom we all believe
To us will all restore.
7. In patience, then, let us possess
Our souls till he appear.
On to our mark of calling press;
Redemption draweth near.
More to come on the subject of verse 6 next week.
That's it for this week,
Till next time,
Elder Haroldsen
